The Choir

We are based in Ashton Hayes near Chester and meet each Monday evening (7.30 - 9.30pm) during term time in the Ashton and Mouldsworth Village Hall.

You don't need to be a good singer, sing solo, or even read music and there are no auditions.  Our members range from complete beginners to the very experienced who wouldn't look out of place on a professional stage.  All are welcome - the important thing is to have fun and to enjoy making music together.

Ashton Sings has between 45 and 60 active members at any time. New members are welcomed and tend to settle in quickly.  We sing in 4 parts (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass).  Don’t worry if you aren’t sure which part you would like to sing, our Musical Director will guide you.

Repertoire

In common with many community choirs, the core of our repertoire is pop songs old and new.  To add variety we incorporate other styles - unaccompanied songs, folk tunes, world music and from time to time the odd classical piece.

Martin, our Musical Director enjoys composing for the choir and also arranges much of our repertoire, tailoring it to bring out the best in our voices.  Some recent pieces that were popular include Best Day of My Life, Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love), Fernhill (composed by Martin in the Shapenote tradition) and the sea shanty Rattle them Winches.
